About Us

Nikki & AndyThank you for visiting Jubilee Traders!  My name is Nikki Davidson, and together with my husband, Andy, and a host of family and friends, we own and operate Jubilee Traders as our effort to address poverty through the hope-filled and sustainable tool of Fair Trade.

It started with our involvement in a Nepali orphanage called Mendies Haven.  We felt particularly connected with a group of six boys who had grown up in the orphanage and had reached the age where it was time to “graduate” and move out on their own.  Nepal is one of the poorest countries in the world and with a 42% unemployment rate, we realized that it would be paramount to orphaning the boys again – to send them off at 18 without an opportunity to earn a living for themselves.  With the help of good friends, the boys selected some silver jewelry to send back to the States to “see if it would sell.”  I had a home party, practically sold out of the jewelry, and the seed of an idea was born.  What if the boys could become the in-country representatives for some sort of an import company that would sell things made by artisans in Nepal?

And thus, Jubilee Traders was born.

It didn’t take long to realize that there was a whole Fair Trade movement of like-minded importers, wholesalers, retailers, and advocates who had already reached the same conclusions concerning how Fair Trade could be used to provide opportunities for artisans in the developing world who were already making beautiful things.  We set about becoming a member of the Fair Trade Federation and have slowly added product lines over the last four years.  I have come to love the artisan-partners who make our leather handbags, silver jewelry, and table linens.

I love to share the stories from our trips.  Or to “be the bridge” that connects the customer with the artisan who made the product that they are purchasing.   We only carry products that I would love to buy myself and I am very proud of each artisan we represent.  It is a privilege to share their craftsmanship with others.

Thank you for joining me in this journey.  I would love to hear from you directly at nikki@jubileetraders.com.  Together we can make a difference, one product at a time.
